Practical lesson using the gamification method

On April 11, 2025 at the department ‘Social medical insurance and public health’ on the basis of the educational programme of training doctors in the direction of ‘Medicine’ was held an open class on the topic ‘Doctor's confidentiality’ with the use of gamification method. The target audience were the students of the group BM-MO-12-23. The main purpose of the event was to form a stable understanding of medical confidentiality as a key element of medical ethics and legislation, as well as to develop students' skills of analysis and decision-making in professionally oriented situations.
During the course of the lesson included a set of various methodological approaches. The introductory part was aimed at actualising the problem and formulating the objectives of the class. The element of gamification was an interactive Quiz on the Kahoot platform, which allowed repeating and structuring knowledge about the regulatory and legal aspects of medical confidentiality in a game form. This format significantly increased the students' motivation and encouraged them to actively engage in the learning process.
The case method ‘Secret Patient’ provided immersion in realistic professional situations requiring legal and ethical assessment. Focus group work allowed students to develop a collective position, discuss the possible consequences of decisions and present reasoned arguments.
At the next stage, students modelled the interaction between the doctor, patient and third parties (relatives, employers, law enforcement agencies, etc.) in the format of role-playing games. This contributed to the development of communicative competence and the ability to act under conditions of conflict of interest.
The final stage – reflection in the ‘Activator’ format - gave an opportunity to assess the level of understanding of the material and to identify areas requiring additional attention. The trainees also offered ideas on how to improve the methodology of such lessons.
Thus, the integration of game and interactive forms in the educational process on medical ethics proved to be highly effective. The lesson contributed not only to increasing the level of legal awareness, but also to the development of critical thinking, moral responsibility and professional identity of students. The obtained results confirm the relevance and prospects of using gamification in the training of the new generation of medical personnel, which enhances intrinsic motivation.
