On March 13, 2025, a significant event for the region’s healthcare sector took place at the South Kazakhstan Medical Academy—the "Nuclear Medicine" Conference, featuring leading specialists from Kazakhstan, Russia, and international experts from GE Healthcare.
The event was dedicated to the development of modern diagnostic and therapeutic methods in oncology, cardiology, and neurology, using PET/CT and SPECT/CT technologies. Special attention was given to the practical application of nuclear medicine, which opens new opportunities for the early detection and effective treatment of severe diseases affecting thousands of residents of Shymkent and the Turkestan region.
The conference’s grand opening was conducted by Zh. S. Seitzhanova, Rector of SKMA, with welcoming speeches delivered by T. S. Sultangaziyev, First Vice Minister of Healthcare of Kazakhstan, and E. A. Birtanov, Project Manager of the University Clinic.
Speakers included:A. I. Pronin, radiologist at the N. N. Blokhin National Medical Research Center of Oncology (Russia) ; E. P. Daricheva, medical consultant at GE Healthcare, K. I. Manzyuk, head of Molecular Imaging at GE Healthcare; A. S. Krylov, radiologist at the N. N. Blokhin National Medical Research Center of Oncology (Russia).
Among the participants were leading specialists from scientific medical centers in Astana, Almaty, Zhambyl, Semey, as well as other experts in nuclear medicine, academy professors, medical interns, and residents.
Conference Program Highlights:key topics included the development of diagnostics and treatment using radiopharmaceuticals, innovative solutions for medical institutions, and the prospects of Kazakhstan’s cooperation with leading international companies.
The importance of the conference for the region was emphasized:
- Access to advanced technologies: The introduction of nuclear medicine will allow residents of Shymkent and the Turkestan region to undergo high-precision diagnostics without the need to travel to the capital or abroad.
- Reduction in mortality from cancer and cardiovascular diseases: Early diagnosis significantly increases the chances of successful treatment.
- Development of medical infrastructure: Discussions on the acquisition and construction of a PET/CT center (CPP) in Shymkent open new perspectives for doctors and patients.
- International collaboration: The participation of GE Healthcare, the N. N. Blokhin National Medical Research Center of Oncology (Russia), and leading Kazakhstani scientific centers enables the adoption of global best practices.
