Another facet of international cooperation
The Department of Pharmaceutical and Toxicological Chemistry hosted a visit by PhD Prabitha Рrabhakaran, a lecturer in the Department of Pharmaceutical Chemistry at the JSS College of Pharmacy (Mysuru, India).
The program of the visit consisted of lectures and laboratory classes for 3rd-5th year students of the Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Production Technology programs, as well as master classes for master's students, РhD students, teachers, and research staff of the Pharmaceutical Research Center.
As part of the calendar-thematic plan, Dr. Prabitha P. held classes with 3rd year students on topics such as analysis of medicines, derivatives of elements of groups III-VIII of the periodic table of D.I. Mendeleyev. The lecturer focused on sources of obtaining and methods of quality control of inorganic medicines, features of their pharmaceutical analysis.
The issues of analysis of medicinal products, derivatives of heterocyclic compounds - pyridine methanol, pyridine-3-carboxylic acid, pyridine-4-carboxylic acid, tropane, etc. were discussed with the 4th-year students. The lecturer examined in detail the relationship between the chemical structure and pharmacological activity of medicinal products, methods of introducing into the molecule of the main substrates of certain active pharmacophoric groups. The issues of purity of medicinal products from accompanying, acquired impurities, the choice of sensitive and reproducible methods for their control were also not left without attention.
Of particular interest were master classes on such current areas of pharmaceutical science as Pharmacophores modeling, Molecular docking, Molecular modeling, Computer-aided drug design (CADD), and Limit testing. The innovative research methods considered allow developing drugs with a given, improved biological activity and selectivity, optimal pharmacokinetic parameters, physicochemical properties, minimizing side reactions, providing for economic accessibility and other advantages of scientific developments.
Full information was provided about the Academy of Higher Education and Science, the College of Pharmacy, and the great achievements of the team in the framework of educational and research activities. Dr. Prabitha spoke in detail about the National Centre for Biotechnology Information, the main goal of which is to develop science and healthcare by providing access to biomedical and genomic information.
We express our sincere gratitude to the management of the JSS College of Pharmacy and SKMA for their support and assistance, to Dr. Prabitha P. for the opportunity to exchange experiences, for such a rich and interesting visiting program, as well as readiness to cooperate in both educational and scientific areas.
